It’s tiiiiiiime. Well, it’s time in our house anyways, Christmas decor is going up!! I wanted to share one of my favorite themed trees we put up every year, our Harry Potter themed Christmas tree! Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just looking for a fun and whimsical way to spruce up your holiday decor, this guide will give you all the tips and tricks you need to make your tree truly magical with a Harry Potter theme.
Our Harry Potter Christmas Tree!!
This is what our Harry Potter Christmas tree looked like in our first house!! No tree topper because I hadn’t found one I liked yet!! I bought this Harry Potter Golden Snitch Tree Topper in 2022 and it is so fun!!
I prefer a themed tree to FEEL like the thing I’m trying to represent, more so than a literal theme. What would the tree look like in the castle? In Hogsmeade? In the common room?
Harry Potter Christmas Tree Ornaments
First, start with the basics: a tree, some twinkling lights, and a tree topper that captures the spirit of the season. For a Harry Potter themed tree, you’ll want to choose ornaments that evoke the magic of the Wizarding World. Think owls, glasses, and DIY ornaments that reflect your favorite elements of the series. I used pages from an old copy I found in a thrift store, rolled up and secured with twine.
Try making your own DIY ornaments by painting miniature broomsticks, wands, and other iconic objects from the series. You can also purchase pre-made ornaments featuring beloved characters like Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid. I made the stars and moon myself by purchasing them on Etsy, painting gold and hot gluing black velvet and sparkle ribbon on!!
More ideas to make your tree feel on theme? Add some whimsical touches like golden snitches, tiny potions bottles, and mini Hogwarts house banners. You can also incorporate other elements of the Wizarding World, like the Marauder’s Map or a sorting hat. I bought 4 or 5 of these sets of 2 Harry Potter inspired glasses on Amazon!
Don’t forget to add some magical lighting to your tree, like strands of fairy lights or flickering LED candles. I plan to add these candles this year!! And finally, to top it off, I used a golden snitch!! In years past, I’ve used an owl!! There are tons of options available!
This tree skirt is old Anthropolgie and just screamed Harry Potter Christmas tree to me without being literal, I love it so much!!
With these tips and tricks, you’ll have a Harry Potter themed Christmas tree that’s sure to delight fans of all ages. So break out your wand and get to decorating!
